Set up in November 2003, Banbridge District Community Safety Partnership (CSP) is one of twenty-six CSPs established throughout Northern Ireland to address the negative impact that crime, fear of crime and anti-social behaviour are having on the quality of life for those living in each council area. It was created in response to the Criminal Justice Review (2000), which recognised that tackling crime and the fear of crime could no longer be left to the criminal justice agencies alone. It was a responsibility for all members of society. 

The Partnership has three tiers: strategic tier, operational tier and task groups. The Bridge Partnership has accepted responsibility for the strategic tier and will assist in the development and co-ordination of a community safety strategy for the District. Banbridge District Community Safety Partnership has already supported a number of community safety initiatives in the local area. These include:

• Urban and rural neighbourhood watch schemes
• Creating safer play areas 
• Education programme on solvent abuse 
• Radio-link scheme 
• 'Get Home Safe' scheme 
• Marshall training 
• Security fencing for protecting the homes of vulnerable people 
• A number of youth projects 
• Cross-Border Community Safety Network 
• Provision of security upgrades for the homes of vulnerable members of our community
• Community Safety Wardens
  

Role 
Tackle crime, the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour through a collective approach.

Responsibilities

• Consult with the community on all aspects of community safety and identify community safety issues;
• Develop a community safety strategy in response to identified need;
• Identify, develop and implement community safety initiatives as identified in the strategy;
• Support community safety initiatives by accessing funding from various sources;
• Organise community safety information meetings as appropriate;
• Research good practice and policy developments at local, national and international level.
